#1 Phantasm Game Concept

Welcome to the development log of Phantasm. We are a group of five students of BINUS UNIVERSITY. My name is Steven Hendry, I'm the  game designer and game programmer. And we have Billy Husada and Chandra Kurniawan as our 2D Artist. Then we have Jeffry and Indra Gunawan as our game programmer. For today, we'd like to talk about the design of the project.

Phantasm is a story driven 2D Platformer game.  What we want to focus on the story telling of the game and the uniqueness of how we tell the story. The player will take control of a person who's thrown into a virtual world called "Phantasm" by scientist. In the virtual world, the protagonist have no memories of himself and doesn't know that he is in a virtual world. The purpose of the game is to find out about his identity and get back to the real world.  In the Phantasm, there are many strange creatures and each have their own abilities.

How we tell the story? We use journals as our narration throughout the game. In the main level, journals contains information about the protagonist's thought and the world around him. However there is are items that triggers optional level. the item will be out in the open area so player can't miss it unless they want to ignore it. The optional levels will take players to another dimension and new enviroment with different enemies. At the end of the optional level, there is a protagonist's personal journals that contains his memories about how and why he was thrown into the virtual world.  There will be more than one optional levels.

The combat system is nothing new, player has a melee attack and there's a delay each strike. However the player will improved his combat abilities and unlock skills after they finished an optional level.
